Christmas Attacks on Religious Communities
In the midst of what for many are holy seasons of light, love, hope, peace and joy, yet again hearts are broken with the shock, horror and terror of attacks on religious communities:
in New York's Rockland County, an attack on a Hanukkah celebration at a rabbi's home, the 13thantisemitic attack in that region in less than 3 weeks.
in White Settlement, TX, a gunman opening gunfire at West Freeway Church of Christ.
Manitoba Multifaith Council (MMC) condemns the shameful atrocity of such attacks.
As the world enters a new year and a new decade, MMC calls individuals and communities to stand strong against these acts of violence and decries the violation of places of public sanctuary and private celebration.
As a network of some thirty faith groups and affiliate partners from across Manitoba, we likewise recommit ourselves to further initiatives for multifaith dialogue, education and advocacy, as together we seek to renew the promise, as expressed by the eloquent champion of social gospel and Medicare Tommy Douglas, "Courage, friend, 'tis not too late to build a better world."

An attack on anyone because of what they believe is also an attack on us all.
