At Mary, Mother of the Church, children in in Grade 4 or older are invited to prepare for the sacrament of First Communion (Eucharist). Preparation usually begins in April.

The following criteria must be met before preparing for the Sacrament of First Communion (Eucharist):

• Child must be baptized.
• Child is in Grade 4 or turning 10 or older in 2024.
• Child must have received the Sacrament of First Penance (Reconciliation).
• Child must be enrolled and attending weekly parish catechism classes (unless enrolled in a Catholic School).
• Child has completed a minimum of twenty hours in an ongoing program of catechesis in the previous year (according to the Archdiocesan Catechetical Policy)

What is involved?

The Sacrament of First Communion (Eucharist) preparation program consists of:

1. Three (3) one-hour preparation sessions - Both Child and Parent attends, and three (3) sessions to be completed at home with child.
   • Session attendance is mandatory for children and at least one parent.
2. Monday evenings - April to May
