We are Marijo and Eduardo, parishioners of MMOC for almost 10 years now. We are originally from Paraguay, but Canada is our home now. We have always attended Masses at MMOC because we feel God's love here.
We always thought we had a good relationship, even though it wasn’t perfect, as no marriage is. However, we still had some challenging areas. So, we attended presentations that the MFL team put on related to marriage and relationships. Since the presentations were so useful, we felt the call to take advantage of the coaching support available as well. We are so thankful for the Marriage support provided by MMOC at that time since the challenging areas turned out to be bigger than we originally realized and we’re not sure we would still be together now without the marriage team’s help. We learned lots of great relationship tips and strategies, received unconditional support and love where we truly felt our marriage mattered, and then were referred to additional professional support as needed.
This last year has definitely been a roller coaster, but due to MMOC’s marriage support provided, we know we are headed in the right direction and our marriage will soon be better than ever! We encourage all other married people to not take your spouse for granted. Attend the MFL presentations when available to help keep your marriage strong, and remember to seek support early if any issues arise. It’s much easier to nip problems in the bud than waiting until it’s too late.
Blessings from Marijo and Eduardo

From the Marriage, Separation & Divorce Lead – Shawnda Muir
Lessons learned from my marriage and separation:
Not sure if I have learned more from when I was married or when surviving my separation, but I definitely have a few words of wisdom that I’d emphasize for anyone who’s married!
Strong marriages start with God in the center. God needs to be involved in your daily activities, including decision making. Pray together. Grow together. Love together.
Love is a decision, not a feeling. Love is a verb, not a noun. Love is something you do, not something that happens to you.
A marriage can be one of the most wonderful experiences in life, yet also one of the most painful if not handled with care. Take time daily to nourish your marriage.
Do not let the busyness of everyday life, kids and careers take over your marriage. Ensure God and your spouse are always given plenty of your time.
Be proactive. Take time regularly to assess your marriage (using one of the many free on-line resources) and address any weaker areas immediately.
